Environmental Stewardship

One of the most compelling attractions in Buncombe County is our natural environment.  Nestled in these Blue Ridge Mountains, Buncombe County boasts some of the best and most accessible locations for the outdoor enthusiasts in America.  We are blessed to inhabit some of the oldest and most majestic mountain vistas on the planet, and we owe it to our children to defend and maintain their purity.

As Asheville grows, more and more of our natural surroundings are developed and cultivated, leading many native species of wildlife to lose their habitat.  Tourists are eager to take advantage of our trails and parks, but some are not as diligent as others in leaving them in the pristine condition they found them in.

We must do everything in our power to fortify our park services and supply an operations fund so our rangers and maintenance employees can provide safe, secure parks and trails.  Facilities need to be upgraded and improved.  Litter must be kept off our mountainsides for generations to come.

I will not let our natural landscape fall victim to developers, to be parceled and razed, paved over and forgotten.  I will strive to achieve 100% energy independence in Buncombe County by prioritizing renewable energy sources on a community by community basis. I will do everything in my power to ensure the future of Buncombe County sees clean air, pure water, and lush forests.
