About Catori

Catori Swann has called Buncombe County his home since 1989, when his father, John Swann, relocated his small business to Weaverville.  He attended Weaverville Elementary and North Buncombe Middle schools.

Catori is a lifelong democrat, progressive and civil rights proponent.  He attended Appalachian State University and graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts in Theater from Catawba College.  He began his career in the arts as an actor and carpenter for the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival in High Point, NC, where he met is wife Nina, a German immigrant.

They decided to return to Catori's home town of Asheville to marry and start a family.  As a result of the strictures of the immigration process, they held a private ceremony at Lake Louise in Weaverville, then held their public ceremony at Brahma Ridge in Candler.

Upon returning to Buncombe County, Catori was hired at North Carolina Stage Company as an actor and carpenter, and has since been promoted to Technical Director and Production Manager of this excellent arts organization. While in service to NC Stage, Catori has joined Actor's Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers, joined the Immediate Theatre Project as Operations Manager, and has collaborated as the technical expert and stage manager on over forty performances. He often travels down the mountain to work with the fine folks at Flat Rock Playhouse as a stage manager.

In 2014 he founded his own production company, Deus Ex Machina Corp, that caters primarily to the needs of educational and not for profit arts organizations across Buncombe county.

He currently resides in Arden with his wife of nine years and their two beautiful children, Iago age four and Veruca age two.  Nina was awarded her naturalization in 2016 and is proud to now call herself a US citizen.

Catori enjoys spending time in the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains hiking, camping and trail running.  He is an active arts and labor advocate, promotes education in all forms, and is a stalwart defender of the environment. He is a woodworker and a welder, an electrician and an auto mechanic.
